Out of the N6.1 trillion budgeted by the federal government for the 2016 fiscal year, the executive arm of the government would spend 96.5 per cent, which amounts to N5.87 trillion, while the Legislature and the Judiciary, would spend N115 billion and N90 billion respectively.
According to the budget breakdown, N39 billion will be spent in running the Office of the President while the Presidency will spend about N2.2 billion on travels, foodstuffs and catering materials, refreshment and meals as well as honorarium and sitting allowances in the 2016 fiscal year.
The government of President Muhammadu Buhari is also expected to spend more than his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan on the maintenance of the presidential villa.
The N2.2bn budgeted for the expenses of the President and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, is N710m higher than what was budgeted for the same purpose in 2015 by the last administration.
Based on the budget breakdown N1.415bn was allocated to the President for general travels and transport, which when compared to the N944.62m that Jonathan got in 2015, is higher by N470.38m.
N114.9m was budgeted for foodstuffs and catering materials for Buhari, which represents an increase of N45.09m from the last budget.
The President is also expected to get N307.64 million for honorarium and sitting allowances as opposed to the N223.24m allocated for the same purpose in 2015.
N49.1m was budgeted for publicity and advertisement as against N29.8m expended in 2015.
Similarly, a breakdown of the amounts allocated for the Office of the Vice President in 2016, indicates an increase in what was allocated for the same office in 2015.
