The Code of Conduct Tribunal on Tuesday, rejected the application for an adjournment by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
The court ordered that Saraki’s trial on 13 counts of false and anticipatory asset declaration, should commence immediately.
After listening to arguments from Saraki’s counsel- Paul Usoro and the government’s lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar, rejected the further attempts to stall the trial.
Umar ruled that the trial could no longer be adjourned as the Tribunal already decided last week that it has jurisdiction to hear the case.
He further stated that the defendant’s application for adjournment offended provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
