Why was Cannavaro sentenced to jail for entering his own house? [DETAILS]

by Mark Bassey

Former World Footballer of the Year, Fabio Cannavaro, has been handed a 10-month prison sentence, for breaching orders to stay away from his property.

The property was seized by authorities, as the 41-year-old is being investigated for tax evasion. In October last year, authorities in Naples seized almost €1m (£732,737) of goods linked to the former Real Madrid and Juventus star and his wife.

Cannavaro and two other people went to his villa to swim, ignoring the fact that property had been seized and they were not allowed access to it.

According to prosecutors, at the time, the villa had been confiscated for suspected abuse of building regulations. Cannavaro is adjudged to have failed to secure planning permission from the local council, to carry out renovation on the house, pool and garden.

The Cannavaro brothers have been acquitted over the planning permission allegations, but have been convicted to illegally entering the property.
