[The Church Blog] 14 years after, Daystar Christmas Carol remains the carol of all carols

Daystar Christmas Carol

It was 12:18 pm.

18 minutes after the time scheduled for the opening of registration for Daystar Christian Centre Carol. I was struggling with a slow phone and an internet that seemed to have been attacked by spiritual forces of some sort.

After a while, the page opened and all available halls were filled. Sigh!

A friend called minutes later and before picking, I could decipher what the conversation was about already – Daystar Christmas Carol ticket. Apparently, she didn’t get any ticket too.

What started in 2003 as a 2-3 hours session of Christmas songs, Dance and God’s word has evolved from one level of prestige to a higher one. Daystar Christmas Carol has easily become a standard for Christmas carols. And they do it so easily – etching every year’s edition in our memories.

Thousands of people, logged in from Nigeria and several other countries of the world showing their love for Daystar and enjoying the massive beauty that the Daystar Christmas Carol represents.

The Daystar Christmas Carol service started with an interview session with Frank Donga that doubled as a comedy session. Then session after session after session; from the junior church to the teens’ church, youth church and the one and only Healing Streams of God. The toddlers played the instruments with skill and sang with unparalleled harmony. Hit after hit after hit, Healing Streams of God got us dreaming of Christmas.

It was beautiful

And Daystar just gives us hope; a hope of a more inclusive church. A church in social-cultural issues. As the choristers moved from one genre of music to the other – Rap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Classical, everyone easily found their favourites. We find it so hard to fault Daystar Christmas Carol; not because there weren’t errors. But, because it was so insignificant. How do you even notice a flat note in the midst of a fabric of beautifully woven music? Every sound note could be heard so distinctly and easily.

Truth is, we don’t have to look too far. The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree, they say. We just have to take a look at Sam and Nike Adeyemi; Senior Pastors at Daystar Christian Centre. These two have not only served us couple goals in the past few years; they have been at the forefront of Church Culture in Nigeria. They lead, not just by saying but doing and showing us how it is done.

Last night was one we won’t forget in a while. Daystar Christian Centre gave us a gift; one we are deeply grateful for.

In case you missed out, you can relive the moments from the photos below.
