These are certainly not the best of times for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as 8 more of its members in the House of Representatives defected to other parties.
All Progressives Congress received 4 of the lawmakers defect to its fold, the All Progressives Grand Alliance gained two of the defectors, while the Peoples Democratic Movement and the Social Democratic Party gained one each.
The defection took place on Wednesday, January 14.
The four lawmkers who defected to APC were Garba Ulma, Zakari Ibrahim, Ibrahim Kamba and Abdulmalik Cheche.
Wilson Nathaniel joined the SDP, while Tony Madwatte and Nwogbo defected to PDM and APGA respectively. Benjamin Aboho defected to APGA, while Forte Dike left APGA for APC.
Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Victor Ogene, also defected from APGA to APC.
As it stands, the APC is the largest beneficiary of the defection, as both the chairman and deputy chairman of the House committee on Media and Public Affairs are now members of the APC.
The opposition party gained six out of the total of 10 lawmakers, who cross-carpeted.
Consequently, the PDP lawmakers dropped to 182 members, while the APC increased from 154 to 158 members.
