Former Chelsea and Newcastle footballer Demba Ba has undergone a successful surgery after suffering a horrific leg fracture during a Chinese Super League game last week.
Ba suffered a broken leg in a derby game between his side Shanghai Shenshua and SIPG in the Chinese Super League.
Ba was treated by French surgeon Olivier Bringer at Putuo District Hospital this morning in a 3-hour long surgery.
The athlete was anesthetized at 9:40am. The surgery started at 10:40am and was completed at 1:55pm.
The Club’s general manager Wu Xiaohui said that the operation was performed by Dr Bringer himself.
“Bringer was stitching carefully. He told me before the surgery that he would make it one of his most perfect operations,” said Wu.
Close to 100 club fans showed up at the hospital since morning to show their support to the Senegal striker.
According to the doctors, Ba is to be observed for a period of three days in the ICU.
Speaking after the operation, Ba’s surgeon Olivier Bringer said he is confident the Senegal striker will return to the pitch as he and his team of doctors had the experience of performing such operations.
“I know Ba is doing well in this club, and I’m sure he will be able to recover and play football again.
“In a few months, he will have the possibility of making a comeback. He is a tough guy and I’m sure he will be able to go over this difficulty.”
Meanwhile Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins had sent Ba a “get well soon” message after he suffered the injury.
