Former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, has admitted that his office was funded on a monthly basis by the under-trial former National Security Adviser, Retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

Writing on his official Twitter handle, Okupe however, said he was not involved in the diversion of over $15bn worth of arms deal funds.

The PDP chieftain said the massive arms funds diversion took place in 2014, and he wasn’t involved in the presidential campaign – where a chunk of the funds was believed to have been channeled into.

Okupe wrote: “I was not paid arms deal money. The NSA paid for the running of my office monthly from August 2012. Dasukigate was in 2014. I did not take part in the campaign.”

What now: Since the former presidential aide has admitted receiving money from the embattled Sambo Dasuki, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission should determine whether his office was meant to have been funded by the NSA and whether arms funds wasn’t used to run Okupe’s office.
