Court asks Police, SSS why Kashamu should be extradited

An application to stop the extradition of Senator Buruji Kashamu to the United States has been served to the State Security Services and the Police by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Okon Abang on Tuesday did not make a decision whether Kashamu should be extradited to the U.S to face drug-related charges or not.

He asked that the motion be served to the Director-General of SSS, Inspector-General of Police and Oladipupo Adebutu.

“It is my view that the court should give the respondents [an] opportunity to show cause why restraining order should not be granted against them.

“The court shall give them time to respond, I want to hear from the respondents,’’ he said.

Kashamu had filed an application restricting the Police and SSS from arresting and detaining him.

Abang adjourned hearing in the suit till Sept. 8.
