FG needs N47bn for meningitis vaccines – Minister

The Federal Government said about N46.7bn is required to vaccinate the population against the Type C meningitis.

Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, stated this on Thursday while briefing the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting.

He said there had been 9,646 suspected cases of meningitis in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Niger, Kebbi and Kano States.

The minister called for the establishment of National Health Emergency Fund to be domiciled in the Presidency under the supervision of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, put the balance in the Excess Crude Account at $2.2 billion as of April 26.

She also told the council that the ministry helped save the Federal Government N17 bn.
