Frozen $15m: Patience Jonathan loses application to stop further actions

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday dismissed an application filed by former first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan seeking to stop Justice Babs Kuewumi from taken further action on the frozen $15m allegedly belonging to her.

The presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris declined an application filed by counsel to the first lady, Ifedayo Adedipe urging the court to stop Justice Kuewumi from making any forfeiture orders, until the determination of an interlocutory application on the subject.

Recall that Mrs. Jonathan had sued the EFCC for freezing her accounts, claiming damages of $200 million.

She also added Skye Bank where the money is domiciled as a respondent, as well as a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Warampo Dudafa.

Justice Idris also ordered the accelerated hearing of the case.

In her suit, Mrs. Jonathan is urging the court to issue an order discharging the freezing order, and restraining the EFCC and its agent from further placing a freezing order on the said accounts.
