The Nigeria Police Force has asked its state commissioners to deploy policemen to schools to avoid abduction of more pupils.
This was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood.
Moshood said, “The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has directed the commissioners of police to carry out deployment in schools, so we have worked out an action plan for schools’ protection.”
The Force PR, however, urged school proprietors that had yet to apply for police protection to do so, saying, “First the proprietors have to reach out to the police if they have not got deployment. If you go to some schools, you would see police deployment.
“I wouldn’t want to reveal the details. I want school proprietors to know that it is important to meet regularly with Divisional Police Officers to review the security situation in their schools and to correct any security lapse.”
Six students of Lagos Model College, Igbonla had been abducted by gunmen about a month ago and are yet to be released.
The kidnappers initially demanded N1bn ransom for the pupils before it was reduced to N50m.
