The newly appointed acting inspector-general of police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris has promised Nigerians that he will do everything possible to give his best to Nigeria.
Speaking to state house correspondents at the end of the meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Idris promised to focus on making sure that communities are safe and the police operates with integrity.
The outgoing IGP, Solomon Arase accompanied Idris as they answered questions from the press.
Idris promised to address “the issue of integrity and accountability, issue of respect for diversity, issue of compassion, issues of ensuring that our streets, our neighbourhoods, our communities remain safe.”
“We are going to do everything possible to ensure that we provide the best service to this country.”
Idris holds an degree in Law from the University of Maiduguri and was enlisted into the force as a cadet ASP in 1984.
Arase enjoined Nigerians to extend the same kind of cooperation he was accorded during his time in office to Idris.
“I want to formally introduce my successor, AIG Idris Kpotum, he is going to be in acting capacity until confirmation from the police council.”
“I want to cease this opportunity to thank Nigerians for the cooperation given me while I serve as inspector-general of police, by extension I want to also appeal to you to give the same support that you gave to me to my successor.”
“He is a younger man so I am sure he will be abreast with the contemporary policing issues.”
