‘I’m too old to loot public funds’ | Olu Falae explains his role in N100 million payment

Chief Olu Falae, who admitted to receiving N100 million from Chief Anthony Anenih of the Peoples Democratic Party, has shed more light on how he disbursed the money.

Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, explained that the money was paid to him for inter-party affairs between his Social Democratic Party, SDP and the PDP in regards to the 2015 general elections.

However, there have been indications that the money was from the $2.1 billion meant for arms allegedly diverted from the office of the NSA.

Speaking to Premium Times on Saturday, January 8, the former minister of finance revealed that the money was received through the account of the SDP before it was disbursed to the state branches of the party.

“It is true I received the money for the party and then it was distributed to the state branches of the party for onward distribution to other levels of the party,” he said.

Also, he addressed the claims of some party members that they were not aware of such payments to the party from the PDP.

“The money came through the party’s account and it was through this account that the monies were distributed.

“The account is there for everyone to verify. I can assure you that all the branches of the party in the states received the money.”

Falae said it was unfair for some party members to claim that they did not know about the payment because their respective branches were informed and received the money.

“We have over 200,000 people in the party, am I supposed to go around telling every one that I have received the money?” he asked.

Falae explained that once the party leaders were made aware of the money, they proceeded to disburse it to the grassroot.

“I have my integrity in tac. I was a former MD of a bank, I was a former minister and a former secretary to the government of the federation. Once they cannot link us to the Dasuki thing, they are coming up with all sorts of things.”

“Based on my integrity, these allegations should be discarded. At 78, what will I be doing with public funds?” he asked.
