The news report that the EFCC has gone after the reinstated (now sacked) former head of the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina, is not one to be joyous about going by the antecedents of this administration, as it relates to the ninety-seven percenters.
The Presidency over the years has developed a cunning method of playing pranks over Nigerians in some of its dealings which has further widened the gap of trust between the leaders and the led.
To start with, Maina absconded from his duty post to evade EFCC arrest and subsequent arraignment. He travelled outside the country after he was disgraced from office by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The EFCC claimed it made spirited effort to arrest him through INTERPOL but didn’t work out. To show how fallacious that statement was, Maina returned to Nigeria in 2016 and has been around since then yet, he was not arrested by the EFCC despite having its operatives at the entry point of all airports in Nigeria.
Also, Maina was alleged to be shuttling between Abuja and Kaduna while hobnobbing those that will bring him back to office through the back door until he was successful. Yet, EFCC that claimed to be looking for him failed to arrest him. According to news reports, t0he letter conveying his reinstatement was dated September 18, 2017, and he has resumed duty since then. The EFCC still claimed they were looking for him.
Not until the news of his secret reinstatement break last week that EFCC starts expressing displeasure about his reinstatement and went to town painting houses and other structures they claimed belonged to the man.
The fact is this, the EFCC is part of those acting the 97% script if not why is Babachir David Lawal not arrested till date? Did the EFCC need a Presidential directive for that? The answer is NO!
Therefore, that EFCC wants to go after Misau is an afterthought and nothing else! Misau will enjoy his freedom like other ninety seven percenters after the usual arrest paparazzi.
