[The Injustice Blog] #Mainagate: Who is after Abdulrasheed Maina

Mainagate

As the narrative continues on the Mainagate saga it’s important we ask ourselves a pertinent question which remains unexplored. Why is Abdulrasheed Maina in hiding? In a February 2013 article titled Evidently Above the Law, respected columnist and editor in chief of Thisday Newspapers Mr Olusegun Adeniyi describes Maina’s  reign at the pension task force office as one laced with impunity and brazen display of questionable acts.

At the peak of his career in the pensions tasks force office Maina was said to be living a larger than life kind of lifestyle not fit for a civil servant, as a deputy director Maina moved around Abuja in convoy of vehicles which includes two bullet proof SUVs which was allegedly given to him by President Goodluck Jonathan, also he moved about with as much as twenty-five mobile police men even when the head of Civil Service don’t have such at his disposal.

Maina’s act of impunity in office took a new dimension when he failed to appear before the Senate to clear his name of any wrong doing when he was summoned, his decision not to appear was considered a breach of trust so former Senate President David Mark went ahead to report him to President Goodluck Jonathan. The long and short of the story was the sudden disappearance of Maina, the beginning of the saga that is Mainagate, which has played out all the way to 2017.

It is worthy of note that all these are mere accusations which hasn’t placed the guilty status on Abdulrasheed Maina but him going into hiding hasn’t helped matters either. He has acted more as a fugitive and a guilty man at a time no one has named him so.

In his latest interview he submitted that he has helped the government to recover trillions of naira which is a good one but Abdulrasheed Maina needs do stop hiding, he needs to clear himself once and for all. His hiding says far more about the truth behind Maingate than his repeated pleas of innocence and his arrogance.
