It’s still love: Joke and Olu renew vows on Joke’s Silva’s 50th birthday

by Yemi Olowu

It wasn’t just a Golden jubilee celebration for Joke Silva, but also a Silver jubilee anniversary of her marriage with veteran actor, Olu Jacobs. The celebration was kickoff with the celebrity couple renewing their wedding vows at the Freedom Park on Lagos Island, yesterday, September 29 2011. “A celebration of love” says the officiating pastor, who also  prayed that what God has began in their lives would be perfected.

“We know the industry they are in, and God has given them the grace to still be together,” the minister said before declaring them the newest couple in town.

The couple  didn’t go the cliche way of wearing the same outfit; Joke wore a floral black and white  maxi, while Olu chose a cream ‘Buba and Sokoto’. Joke later wore an embellished African print gown for the reception. Guests were treated with a stage play titled “The Naming Ceremony” directed by Tosin Otudeko and written by Sefiu Atta exclusively for the event.

The reception arena where guest were ushered after the play, was decorated with white and gold accents, from the center pieces on each table to the drapes. A live band serenaded the guests to love hits from the 80s before Idol West Africa winner, Timi Dakolo, took command of the stage to get the couples dancing to his rendition of ‘Flying Without Wings’.  After Timi came performances from the Black Chiffon Songstress Yinka Davis.
