Just In: Ondo Assembly gets new speaker

The Ondo state House of Assembly on Monday elected Bamidele David Oloyelogun as its new speaker, according to Sahara Reporters.

The lawmaker representing Ifedore Constituency on polled nine votes to beat Olamide George from Akure North Constituency ‘I’ who polled four votes during an election described by critics as shady.

The election was conducted by thirteen lawmakers who were suspended by former female Speaker, Jumoke Akindele.

Ogundeji Iroju, from Odigbo Constituency also emerged as the new Deputy Speaker, unopposed.

Siji Akindiose, the spokesman for the Jumoke Akindele faction, disclosed that they were not carried along in the election.

“No notification was sent to us that there would be a sitting today and the House does not usually sit on Mondays and Fridays, which are reserved for committee activities,” he said.
