For people who are incredibly religious and judging of what other people do in private, Nigerians are surprisingly hypocritical and as messy as they come. A lot of the posturing and angling we do to gain favour from others and present ourselves as perfect makes us crave depravity where we can get it. Comfortable-in-skin, heterosexual Nigerian men especially, who spend a ridiculous amount of time policing the sex lives of everyone else who doesn’t fall into that demographic are often exposed and disgraced for the kind of action they punished in others. Nigerian striker Isaac Success is the latest in a long line of heterosexual Nigerian men living abroad who are rudely awakened to the loss of privilege and agency they abused under Nigerian patriarchy.
He was recently arrested by the police in the UK for physically assaulting four sex workers, who he began to beat because he wanted a refund of the $2000 he paid them for a freaky night out. However, Success also drank excessively and passed out before he could engage all four of them in sexual intercourse. When Success woke up, unaware that in sex work you often pay for the time of the woman you solicit, and whatever happens within the window your money buys you is up to you. This is how one of the sex workers described her ordeal to the Daily Mail.
“It was terrifying. He had paid four of us £500 each to party with him and we all got naked as soon as the money came through on our phone bank accounts. He was drinking Baileys straight from the bottle. He must have chugged at least two. I pulled off his shorts and got down to it with three other girls doing everything you could imagine.
“But he was getting frustrated. What do you expect if you drink two bottles of Baileys liqueur straight from the bottle?”
Success, who is only 21, was arrested after the sex workers called the cops on him. Oh to be so privileged and entitled to a woman’s body at such a young age, that you feel your inadequacies are somehow the woman’s fault. We need to train our men better. We just have to.
