Lauretta Diaries: What to expect when she writes her book on Buhari

by Alexander O. Onukwue

In case you did not know, Lauretta Onochie actually came from the UK before working for the Buhari Support Organization from 2014.

She is a lecturer, per her Linkedin page, at a school somewhere over there, and writes her opinions on a blog. There is a line in her latest piece on the blog about ‘Baba agba’ and ‘Baba kekere’ and a certain State Governor from the South West whom she refers to as ‘Pinocchio’.

Ms Onochie is fierce, at least on Twitter and Facebook, and her blogs, though not frequent, are long and readable. She is not in the realm of Femi Adesina as a writer, but she does know how to paint her opinions and descriptions of events to make you want to read.

She is not the official spokesperson for the President, rather occupying a more informal role of being the responder-in-chief to any remark deemed unsavoury to the image or work of the Buhari administration. It is not clear how much she knows about the inner workings of the administration, especially at this time of Buhari’s absence and the intrigues that are at play around his health.

We have had media aides from the past two administrations produce their accounts on the workings of their bosses. ‘Power Politics and Death’ by the distinguished Olusegun Adeniyi was a political thriller which took the reader through the corridors of the Yar’Adua Aso Rock days. However, Reno Omokri’s book on Jonathan’s administration has not quite taken off.

It is to be assumed that media aides keep diaries of the events that take place in the performance of their duties in the Villa, and seeing she is already a blogger, perhaps we might expect something from Lauretta Onochie when her days expire at Abuja.
