When Music Journalist, Joey Akan, on Wednesday, highlighted the possible chance of blogging platform, Crowee, gaining acceptance among young Nigerians, some of us were beginning to sense a possible inroad for the indigenous app (at least among young people in the North).

Joey shared how the app could gain massive followership through the enrolment of people like embattled Influencer, Tunde Ednut, on its platform, considering his recent ‘comeback magic’ on Instagram.

Founder of the App and Sharp Guy Extra-ordinaire, Adamu Garba took note of this spirited advice and tweeted that he had reached out to the Influencer. Little did we know, that we were going to wake up to a campaign for Crowee to be given a chance on the same micro-blogging platform, Garba had ‘dragged the destiny’ of its founder, Jack Dorsey for daring to show support for the October #EndSARS protests. Recall that he even filed a suit against the American in a Federal High Court.

Although the former presidential aspirant had on Monday, withdrawn the case against Twitter founder and posted a video apologising to Nigerians, very few persons were ready to listen to this ‘Crowee appeal.’

From the video, Adamu is seen wearing promotional materials for his Crowee company and this makes it look like the video was well planned to push this latter agenda that has been unveiled this Thursday.

From one influencer to another user, the sermon was on ignoring Adamu’s misdemeanors and supporting a local investor, but this was met with a huge campaign against downloading same. Many pointed to concerns on privacy, supporting a man who is a friend to the oppressors and some other strong points. To add salt to injury, some users alleged that social media influencers had been paid to convince Nigerian Twitter about migrating to the app and they were not going to take it lightly. It won’t be out of place to say the Crowee founder has committed a mortal sin and had been sentenced by the High Court of Cancel Culture

In the end, the app became a Scare Crowee for intending users and obviously Garba’s loss. Will he try again?

Until he makes up his mind, following all of these developments, a popular Swedish proverb is handy for all observers and Adamu Garba himself. It says: ‘Don’t saw off the branch you’re sitting on.’
