You tell me go/ go far away…
Damilare opens “Shakara” in this manner, with an instrumental pause before he goes on to sing about a lover who doesn’t feel like her place in his life is pronounced enough.
Damilare’s reaction to her insecurity is cheeky in an almost insulting way, as he’s somewhat more bemused than agitated about his love interest losing the battle to guard her feelings. “Shakara don end o”, Damilare says simply on the hook as if to punctuate how much he’s enjoying the new twist to their relationship. Which is understandable especially after she told him to leave and he simply did as he was told.
If “Shakara” sounds familiar it’s probably because the single shares a similar baseline and Fuji-leanings with L.A.X’s “Runaway”. Their similitude also extends to the stop-snare-kick manner used by producer Quebeats to pace the mellow composition with its accompanying mid-tempo arrangement. But “Shakara” thrives with storytelling and a decidedly sexier lyrical set-piece.
With YCEE, Bella Allubo and Dapo Turbuna in it’s ranks, Tinny Entertainment has been gradually cornering the vacuum left by Mavins, EME, Chocolate City and the likes to groom emerging talent. Damilare is the Tinny’s latest signee and with a strong debut like “Shakara”, and a focused management like Tinny, we just may have another true discovery in the pipes.
