A successor for the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuawde, has been announced by the Osun state government.

The appointment of Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi as the new Ooni of Ife, has been approved by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The approval was communicated via a statement released on Saturday, October 24.

Governor Aregbesola was quoted as saying that Ife kingmakers have completed and communicated the choice of Prince Ogunwusi to his office.

The statement said: “The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, has approved the appointment of a new Ooni of Ife.”

40-year-old Prince Enitan Ogunwusi was selected from 21 candidates presented by the Giesi ruling house..

The late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, joined his ancestors, on July 28, in a hospital in the United Kingdom.

The new Ooni of Ife is reputed to be much loved and respected by the people of Ile-Ife, as he has kept in touch with his roots and tradition of the Yoruba land.

Prince Ogunwusi is said to have already established rapport and alliances with royal fathers and some of Nigeria’s leaders.
