Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun on Monday, February 2, promised to declare a public holiday to enable eligible voters collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.
He made the announcement at Ajebo ward 11 in Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of the State during his re-election campaign rally.
He said the state government would not relent in the voters’ education and sensitisation on the importance of the PVCs, if the INEC was ready to distribute the cards.
“We can’t just declare holiday when the cards are not ready; we are doing everything to sensitise our people on the importance of the cards,” Amosun said.
He also promised to commence work on the OGTV- Kajola – Obafe- Ajebo road if re-elected.
He commended the former governor of the state, Olusegun Osoba, who constructed the road during his tenure. “We should not deceive ourselves, the topographic texture of the road is not favourable, so the road needs a concrete work; it is part of our first assignment if re-elected. I want to appeal to our people to bear with us as we are now set to embark on the development of the rural areas,” he said.
Also speaking, Amosun’s running mate, Yetunde Onanuga, advised women to vote for the governor, who she described as a gender friendly governor.
Onanuga urged them not to sell their voter cards to some deceitful politicians, saying that it would amount to mortgaging their future and that of their children.
