President Muhammadu Buhari has notified the National Assembly of his 10-day trip abroad for medical treatment.
The President on Monday, travelled to London to see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist for his “persistent ear infection”.
Buhari has also handed over governance of the country to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on a temporary basis – which makes the Vice President the official Acting President throughout the duration of his boss’ trip abroad.
A letter read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, contained the President’s notification of his decision to travel abroad and the fact that Osinbajo would take over from him pending his return.
Deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, who read the letter, presided over the Senate’s sitting.
This would be the second time President Buhari would be transferring power to VP Osinbajo since May 2015, when they were inaugurated into office.
In one of his acts as Acting President, Osinbajo (today) had a closed door meeting with the nation’s Service Chiefs and governors of Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo, and Abia States.
The purpose of the meeting is to find solutions to the attacks on oil installations by militant group, Niger Delta Avengers.
