Police drag disabled protesters from ObamaCare repeal hearing (WATCH)

A group of protesters including disability rights activists disrupted the Senate hearing on the GOP’s ObamaCare repeal bill before any substantial issue was discussed on Monday, Politico reports.

As the protesters chanted, “No cuts to Medicaid, save our liberty”, Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch was, therefore, forced to temporarily suspend the hearing for about 15 minutes.

Hatch disturbed and angered at the protester’s said, “If you want a hearing, you better shut up”. The hearing is the first and only session scheduled on the new Obamacare repeal plan.

Hatch was joined on the panel by the bill’s co-author Sen. Bill Cassidy, the members left the room until police removed the protesters, comprising mostly of disabled individuals in wheelchairs.

However, the finance committee chairman later said that he understands why the activists are passionate, but threatened to cut the hearing short if protests and disruptions continue.

“If the hearing is going to devolve into a sideshow … there’s no reason for us to be here. If we can’t have that, we should all be spending our time on something more productive.”

Also outside the hearing room were various protest groups which include patient advocacy and women’s health groups and progressive activists who for hours booed Republican senators as they walked in and later chanting against the repeal bill throughout the hearing.

Sen. Ron Wyden, a ranking Democrats on the committee said, “The process that led to this is an abomination. We’ve just seen, colleagues, some of the frustration.”
