Pregnant woman tests positive for Ebola in Lagos

by S’ola Filani

A pregnant woman who went for her usual check up at the First Consultant Hospital Obalande – same hospital that Patrick Sawyer was admitted –  tested positive of the virus on Friday.

She got infected after being treated by the same nurse, Obi Justina Ejelonu, who attended to the Liberian carrier, Patrick Sawyer.

Recall that two nurses came in direct contact with Mr. Sawyer and one of them died this week – the other nurse, Justina is still alive.

The pregnant woman has since been quarantined at the mainland hospital where there is an isolation emergency centre for Ebola virus victims.

  1. I think is time 4 FG to start effecting some public health laws to forestall the spread of ebola to neighbouring state,a little leaven is leavening the whole lump,a disease that is brought by one patrick sawyer into the country is spreading….ooo

  2. She either didn’t wash her hands at all or properly. They could also have made the woman lie on the couch Sawyer laid on.Ebola is transmitted by body fluids, but, was 1st suspected to be airborne due to the ease with which it spreads.Everybody who has had one form of contact with any Ebola victim should be isolated asap for if left to spread the way it is right now, it will leave so much horrible death in its wake and on a large scale, the world will have to shut its doors on nations and not even attempt to save any.

  3. This is sad. We should have taken the initiative before this virus got to our boarders.

  4. Na wa o. Were we not told that the nurses were quarantined almost immediately? Are we not being educated that the virus can only be spread by very sick “victims” who have already started exhibiting symptoms? How can such a symptomatic person be fit enough to go about her nursing duties thus infecting another?……..
