The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang, has dismissed reports that President Muhammmadu Buhari rejected the 2016 budget from the National Assembly.
Enang told journalists on Monday, April 11 in Abuja, that the reports in the media were untrue as President Buhari simply sent the budget to ministries for feedback before traveling to China.
“The president received the budget and convened an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting. He gave each of the ministers, departments and agencies the opportunity to look at the details as submitted by the National Assembly.”
“This is to enable him get opinion on the state of the budget to enable him take a decision. The exercise was conducted on Friday and it is ongoing by the different ministers and ministries.”
Enang further said that the constitutionally available time for President Buhari to assent to the budget had not elapsed and therefore it should not be assumed that he rejected it.
