Imagine the shock we felt seeing the report of threats made by the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) to down tools and effectively shut down the government over unpaid allowances.
The report claims the public servants are frustrated with the Federal government consistently owing them arrears of promotion and other allowances even when it has been over a year since the said arrears were computed by a Presidential Committee and report submitted to the Presidency.
It’s not hard to understand how these workers would have come to the conclusion that they could no longer keep mum and wait for 10 year-long arrears (in some cases) to be paid seeing as the President has spent so much time in the media talking about how he understands the plight of many Nigerian workers and is dedicated to ensuring that salaries and pensions are paid and as at when due. A promise he alluded to again last Wednesday at the National Economic Council meeting with State Governors.
My promise to Nigerians is that I will not rest until I address all the issues that affect you. One of these basic things is salaries.

It is most important that workers are able to feed their families, and pay rent and school fees. Extremely important.

Did it become unimportant with the federal workers who have no representatives on the Economic Council or what then?
Or does the FG need some bailout funds for itself?
Better yet, can the report just turn out to be false?
