Is it possible that there is a gene or mutation that can make people evil? Some are wondering what kind of evil, rather than mental illness, might have led Adam Lanza to kill all those little children. But the question is whether or not there is always a difference between evil and mental illness. Can’t one come to define or facilitate the other?
Scientists will be researching the DNA of Newtown, Connecticut gunman Adam Lanza in search of a gene that might indicate that certain individuals have a propensity to commit evil, reports state.
Connecticutmedical examiner H. Wayne Carver, who performed the autopsies of Lanza’s victims, has ordered a review of the killer’s DNA to see if there might be any abnormalities. Geneticists at the University of Connecticut are slated to conduct the study in the weeks and months ahead.
Arthur Beaudet, a professor at Baylor College of Medicine, told reporters that geneticists will likely work to “detect clear abnormalities of what we would call a mutation in a gene.”
“There are some abnormalities that are related to aggressive behavior,” he said. “They might look for mutations that might be associated with mental illnesses and ones that might also increase the risk for violence.”
Scrape TV stated, “If a demon possessed Lanza, that will likely not be found in his DNA. … No one has yet been able to determine the DNA structure of fallen angels/demons which could cause some problems.”
In the meantime, the FBI and other government officials are investigating evidence both online and from Lanza’s hard drive, which they found smashed, in order to try to obtain answers as to a motive for his crimes. According to reports, authorities speculate that he might have used devil-worshiping or suicide sites, or conversed online in some manner about his plans to murder his mother. A former classmate of Lanza purportedly claimed that the 20-year-old had a satanic page on the internet, but his assertions have yet to be confirmed.
At the end of his violent rampage, when Lanza took his own life as first responders closed in on him, twenty children and six adults were left dead, including the school principal. Medical examiners report that the majority of the victims had been shot multiple times.
“I’ve been at this for a third of a century and this is probably the worst I’ve seen,” said Chief Medical Examiner H. Wayne Carver. “This is a very devastating set of injuries.”
