Citing irregularities in the ambassadorial list forwarded by the Presidency, the Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, summoned the secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, and the Minister of foreign affair, Geoffrey Onyema, to appear and explain the anomalies therein.
The Senate reached the decision to summon the duo after a point of order was raised by Senator Joshua Dariye, who urged the chamber to invite the two government officials to come and explain “some irregularities” in the list.
The Presidency had forwarded the list to the senators on June 9, for confirmation.
The motion moved by Dariye was put to a voice vote by the Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Saraki said, “On career ambassadors we must ensure that the process is transparent.”
“It is important the senate committee invite the SGF and minister of foreign affairs to explain the processes the names came about.”
