The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in Imo State, has declared its support for the President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid in next year’s general elections. Party chairman in Imo state, Peter Ezeobi, made this announcement in Owerri yesterday at a rally to organise support.
Ezeobi said the party is preparing and gathering strength like never before ahead of the 2015 general elections. Ezeobi reminded the party faithful that Rochas Okorocha, the present governor of Imo state was elected under the platform of APGA before he defected to the APC, and that he had not taken the party structure with him upon his move, so, “we are not losing any sleep as we will reclaim the governorship seat next year”.
The one-day rally, which was billed as a “sensitisation rally”, saw the presence of the leadership of the party at both national and state levels. Party chieftains took turns to address the crowd despite the heavy downpour.
Some chieftains of the party in Imo state claimed that the success of the sensitisation rally proved that APGA remained the only recognised party in South East Nigeria, and pointed to the presence of new mempers who decamped from other parties as proof of their assertion.
