The National Coordinator of the National Peace Summit Group (NPSG), Theophilus Ekpon, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to have a rethink and exclude Adamawa State from among the states under  emergency rule.

Ekpon said the security situation in Adamawa was not as precarious as that of other states under emergency rule.

The coordinator commended the president for acting decisively in the interest of security in the North East but urged him to do a rethink on the FG’s position on Adamawa.

He reportedly said, “The Federal Government took the decision after very wide consultations with relevant stakeholders in order to restore normalcy to the North East.  Part of the president’s effort at restoring normalcy is the granting of amnesty to insurgents from the North despite opposition from across the country.

“The situation in Adamawa State under the leadership of Governor Murtala Nyako is not the same as Borno and Yobe states which are the epicentres of the insurgency.”
