The month of June makes it the half of the year 2024, and several incredible Nigerian movies have been released since January 2024 till date.
At YNaija!, we bring to you the top 10 Nigerian movies we believe impacted the most general public (gp) since they were released either across streaming platforms (Netflix and Amazon Prime Video) or cinemas.
We may not mention some of your favourite movies, but that does not mean they are not great. This is primarily the top 10 compiled by YNaija! as we recognised the artistry, box office record, and public reviews of these movies.
Here are the top 10 Nigerian movies released in 2024 so far
- Postcards (released on Netflix)

Nollywood and Bollywood, two of the world’s largest film industries, have come together to release a new series on love, heartbreak, life and grief titled ‘Postcards’.
The film is set to focus on four different individuals as they each experience a life of love, grief, heartbreak, loss, and happiness.
‘Postcards’ official plot states that a Nigerian single mother leaves her home for India for health purposes, so many other people notice her presence in the country.
- Japa! (released on Prime Video)

Japa! sees a man prepared to leave Nigeria for a brighter future but gets stopped along the way, facing trials and tribulations at the hands of his alleged village people who do not want him to leave Nigeria.
- Beast of Two Worlds (released in cinemas)

A desperate monarch was exiled due to his wife’s inability to produce a son, an heir to the throne. He then takes a wife from another world, and the drama ensues.
- Funmilayo Ransome Kuti (released in cinemas and Primer Video)

Funmilayo Ransome Kuti tells the story of the activist, mother of legendary Afro singer Femi Kuti, the first woman to ever drive a car in Nigeria, and her passion to fight for the rights of her people in the face of adversary.
- Afamefuna: An Nwa Boi Story (released in cinemas)

Afamefuna takes a notable dive into the world of the Igbo culture. It tells of the Igbo apprenticeship system and how successful men pass down their knowledge to the apprentices, circulating the source of wealth within themselves, their culture and community.
- Muri & Ko (released in cinemas)

The film depicts the chaos that occurs after a street thug mistakenly kidnaps a child after stealing a car. The family of the child organises a search party for the child, and Muri faces a challenge: release the child to the parents or suffer the consequences.
- Criminal (released in cinemas)

Though the official synopsis is yet to be released, ‘Criminal’ is looking to shatter the boundaries that almost no one in the Nollywood industry has thought to break. Niyi Akinmolayan praised the adept skills of the actors and the creativity that went into the production of this film, which will show the world what it is like to be in a hostage situation in Nigeria.
- Lakatabu (released in cinemas)

A man with supernatural powers begins to tread a dark path as he uses his powers for criminal activities, threatening the lives of anyone who dares to stand in his way. They say pride goes before a fall, and Lakatabu showcases how deep a person can fall.
- Anikulapo: Rise of the Sceptre (released on Netflix)

The mythological series depicts the life of Saro, a traveller who returns to earth as a ghost to take back the 20 lives he resurrected. The series is a sequel to the original movie, also released on Netflix.
- Ajosepo (released in cinemas)

Ajosepo focuses on the life of a young couple, Dapo and Tani, while they prepare for their wedding. The chaos unravels when the families involved arrive and display their true natures, which may jeopardise the wedding plans.
