N7bn Vice President residence abandoned by contractors

Construction work has stopped on the grand residence of the Vice President.

The project, which has reportedly gulped N7 billion, has been abandoned by the contractors, and weeds can now be seen growing around the uncompleted building.

After the 7th Senate refused to accept the inflation of the contract sum by N9 billion, the Federal Capital Development Authority abandoned the project.

According to The Nation, despite the fact that N7billion has been released for the project, the contractors have not been paid in full for the project, which is yet to reach 80 per cent completion.

The contract for the construction of the building was awarded in 2009 at N7billion.

However, in 2012, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Sen. Bala Mohammed, requested for N9billion more to complete the project.

Investigations by The Nation revealed that nothing has been done on the site since 2013.

  1. The immediate past minister must be interrogated. In the first instant, 7 billion naira is unrealistic, not to talk of additional 9 billion naira to complete a project that will be of no benefit to anyone.
