Chairman of the senate Adhoc committee on media and publicity, Dino Melaye, has revealed the reason behind the decision to screen only three ministerial nominees on Tuesday.
Thus far 18 nominees have been screened, and 9 more were expected to be screened today, but the Senate announced on Tuesday morning that only 3 will be attended to.
Melaye subsequently disclosed that the Senate chose to space-out the screening as opposed to the earlier practice, in order to thoroughly carry out the process.
He said: “The reason why we reduced the number of nominees is because we responded to the agitations and yearnings and the aspirations of Nigerians.
We have monitored the reactions of Nigerians on the issue of the ministerial screening and we found out that Nigerians believed that we are rushing the process and it was not as thorough as they would desire.
“We have agreed that we reduce to three or four per day so that the interaction and screening exercise will be more thorough and Nigerians will appreciate who is going to be their minister.”
