Victor Yakubu has set a 15-goal target for himself, as the new Nigeria Premier League season kicks off.
The Wikki Tourists striker scored twice, as they won 2-0 against Shooting Stars in their season opener at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.
Yakubu hailed the work of the new technical adviser Abdul Maikaba and promised to score a brace again this weekend, when they face Nasarawa United in Lafia.
“Every season I always was scoring goals for Wikki. It’s no surprise for me as it is what I’ve been doing often. I want to score between 15-20 goals this season,” Yakubu told Goal.
“We’ve still got lots of games to go, so hopefully I can get up to that target and even break the current record by his grace. I think I’ve got the ability to do that so I’m looking forward to every game.
“We had a great game against Shooting Stars – we needed to win for our fans after we did poorly at the NNL Super Four. I want to keep working hard in training and doing what I’m good at, which is winning games for the team.
“Our new coach has made a great different since joining us. I’m hoping to keep scoring to help the club to secure a continental ticket and possibly win the league title. I hope to score two goals in Lafia this weekend by his grace.”
Wikki Tourists’ game against Nasarawa United is scheduled for Sunday, March 15.
