Last Saturday, the Nigerian female football team, Super Falcons won the 2016 African Women’s Cup of Nations beating Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses 1-0. The win did not come as too much of a surprise since it’s the eighth time the Falcons will be securing the title in the history of the competition.
But it did come as a surprise to one man: the infamous sports minister, Solomon Dalung.
The players upon their uneventful landing in the country demanded that their unpaid allowances and entitlements that come with their remarkable victory , all running into N238.05 million be paid. They’ve threatened to take to the streets if President Buhari makes no move and are holding on to the trophy until the payments are made.
Wise Solomon Dalung had to address the situation, afterall he’s the man in charge of sporting activities in the country. And he saved the day! Nobody thought the Super Falcons would win the competition so no preparation was made for their entitlements, and that’s really thoughtful.
As usual, he received major backlash from Nigerians, many called on President Buhari to fire this disgraceful minister but we seem to forget that the president chose him in the first place. It took six long months of critical research and evaluation to find this “quality” public servant and his cohorts.
But here’s the crux of the matter, Dalung has said today that his statement was “taken out of context” So the blame is on us really. For misinterpreting the man and questioning his intentions. There’s no way he would have said the Falcons were not expected to win. He said at the time that the situation was unfortunate and “he didn’t like it”. The Joker!
Solomon Dalung can hardly hide his incompetence. He lacks the ability to discern the appropriate words per situation. Hours ago, he tweeted this:

The only thing that’s amazing is how President Muhammadu Buhari happened upon this minister and put us on a four-year long ting. But what do they say about birds who flock together?
