Security operatives raid Ogoni community in search of notorious militant

Security operatives on Sunday invaded Yeghe community in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State in search of a notorious militant, Punch reports.

Reports say the combined team of soldiers and policemen were in the community to search for a former militant leader, Solomon Ndigbara, also known as Osama bin Ladin.

According to reports, the security agents arrived the community around 4 am and reportedly began to shoot sporadically.

It was gathered that some indigenes were injured and some have been forced to flee the community for the fear of the unknown.

A source disclosed that some people were arrested, stating that a couple have been missing after the raid and blood stains found in their room.

He said, “Again, the whereabouts of John Gbarazia is unknown. We don’t even know if he is alive or dead. An eyewitness said he (Gbaraia) was shot.

“Barikui, Suanu, Sorbarikor and Barikpoa Diih, who were arrested, have been released this (Sunday) evening. The combined team of security operatives came to Yeghe community in Gokana Local Government Area.

“Doors were smashed, properties were destroyed. We are peaceful people and we don’t want soldiers and other security agents to raid our community again. This is about the fourth time our community would be invaded.

“We are calling on the Federal Government to come to our rescue and save us from politicians, who want to use our community as a battle  field. We are peace-loving people and do not deserve this invasion.”

A Civil group, the Civil Liberties Organisation has condemned the raid.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, however said he has not been briefed on the invasion.
