The National Assembly has a new battle to fight

Now that the National Assembly leadership brouhaha is finally beginning to simmer, a new kind of battle is brewing in the nation’s legislature.

The new battle appears to be the intense jostle for the control of the 90 standing committees of the National Assembly.

According to reports, the upper and lower chambers of the assembly are presently in a desperate lobby of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to secure chairmanship and other positions in the committees.

Vanguard newspapers, reports that some of the lawmakers who supported the emergence of the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, have already began to make demands to head committees, as reward for their loyalty and support.

Such lawmakers in both chambers have reportedly made their ambitions known to the two leaders of the NASS because of the role they played in the election of the new leadership of the National Assembly, against the wish of their party, the All Progressives Congress.

How this all plays out eventually, remains to be seen.
