Today’s Daily Brief: Adamawa assembly won’t accept imposed Speaker, APC is angry, and more

Campaign by Senators jostling for various positions in the eight National Assembly disrupted proceedings on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday.

Those aspiring for various Senate positions especially the office of the Senate President and their supporters took their campaign to the floor of the upper chamber to the amazement of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over proceedings in the absence of Senate President, David Mark.

Senate office seekers were observed dashing from one seat to another in their bid to lobby their colleagues to support them.

The Adamawa state House of Assembly member-elect for  Mubi South constituency, Abdulrahaman Abubakar, has reiterated his colleagues commitment to ensuring the emergence of a popular and competent candidate as speaker of the House’s 7th Assembly.

Mr. Abubakar, who is the chairman of the newly formed Integrity Forum by the House of Assembly members-elect, alleged that a move by a leading politician to impose a speaker on the house. He said the members have vowed to oppose this.

Mr. Abubakar, elected on the platform of APC, said the members of the APC dominated House had resolved to have a Speaker from the Central zone of the state since the Governor-elect and his Deputy were from the Northern and Southern zones respectively.

FORMER Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo, has said that Nigerians will value President Goodluck Jonathan later for his love and sacrifice for the country, insisting that the outgoing president is a hero.

Bozimo made the statement at Erhowha in Isoko South Local Government Council of Delta State weekend during the burial of his late father in-law, Chief Ezekiel Ukodie.

Bozimo also said that it was wrong to blame the spate of insecurity in Nigeria on exhibition of lack of courage or selfish political considerations by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Kaduna State Governor-elect, Malam Nasir El-Rufa’I, on Tuesday alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party government has stolen so much from the national treasury, saying the new government will politely those involved to return all the money taken from the nation’s coffers.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged the security agencies and the telecommunications service providers to help fish out those who have being seeking to defraud Nigerians by asking them to apply for federal appointments under the incoming APC federal government through a non-existent APC Screening Committee.

In a statement in Abuja, Tuesday, its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the call has become necessary because the scammers have persisted in their fraudulent ways, despite previous warnings by the party for them to desist.
