Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has revealed that there are as many members of the All Progressives Congress facing corruption charges before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, as there are members of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The minister, speaking on Channels TV on Sunday, February 28, said the allegations that the current administration’s fight against corruption is only targeted at PDP members is at best misinformed and untrue.

He stated that the fight against corruption cuts across religion, ethnicity and political parties and therefore nobody would be spared in the course of sweeping the nation clean of its scourge.

“Corruption cuts across ethnicity, religion, political parties, we do not micromanage the anti-graft agency.”

“I am in government and I can tell you that this government does not tell EFCC who to arrest or not.”

Explaining why it appears that only members of the PDP are in the news for facing corruption charges, Lai Mohammed said that it is because the government is at the moment, investigating one issue, which is the $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of arms which was allegedly diverted.

He revealed that both members of the APC and PDP are facing corruption charges before the EFCC but declined to mention specific names.

“Go to EFCC today and ask them who the people facing charges before them are and you would find as many APC members as you will find PDP members too.”

“What gives impression that this fight is one sided is the fact that it is simply one issue that is being investigated which is money to buy arm for our soldiers.”

“Unfortunately everybody involved happened to be PDP.”

He urged Nigerians to stop focusing on the lines of party association in the fight against corruption but rather on the guilt or innocence of the charged person.

“What should interest Nigerians is if the arraigned people are being arraigned falsely,”he said.
