Why did Bafetimbi Gomis collapse against Spurs on Wednesday night? (READ)

by Mark Bassey

In scenes that were eerily reminicent of Fabrice Muamba’s near-fatal cardiac arrest at White Hart Lane, Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis, collapsed on the pitch on Wednesday night.

The Frenchman slumped in the 11th minute, as his team-mates tried to restart the game following Nacer Chadli’s opener.

Gomis was quickly attended to by medics from both teams and taken to hospital. According to Swansea manager, Garry Monk, the 29-year-old was keen to get on with the game. And he has now sought to explain what happened via Twitter.

He wrote: “I wanted to reassure you concerning my health, it actually looks much more scary than physically dangerous and I am feeling well now.

“I have been under a great deal of stress and fatigue due to my father’s health that requires me to go back and forth to France.”

“I was disappointed that I couldn’t help my team tonight but now everything is back In order. I also want to thank everyone for their support and get well messages.”
