Why INEC declared Bayelsa election inconclusive

INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared inconclusive, the governorship election in Bayelsa State.

The electoral agency declared the election inconclusive after the cancellation of the poll in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa.

INEC cancelled the election after two Toyota Hilux vehicles, carrying 24 ballot boxes and some men suspected to be political thugs besieged the collation centre in Yenagoa.

Three men were reported to have alighted from the vehicle which was driven in high speed, after which they delved into the chanting of local war songs.

The men said the ballot boxes in the vehicle contained election materials from Southern Ijaw.

The men, who were not INEC officials or recognised party agents, claimed to have retrieved the ballot boxes from soldiers after overwhelming them.
