1. Dino Meleaye’s certificate scandal

During the week, online news medium, SaharaReporters alleged that Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye did not graduate from the Department of Geography, at Ahmadu Bello University as he has claimed.

In response, Melaye released a statement claiming he got his 3rd degree from the same university and currently obtaining his 7th degree.

The allegation gained more attention after the Ivy league school Harvard University dismissed a claim by Melaye that he was once a student of the institution.

According to an official of the school, the Senator only attended a one-week leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School of Educational Leadership.

We thought we had seen it all, until the London school of Economics and Political Science said he did not receive any formal education from the school, even though he had continuously claimed to be an alumnus of the institution.

The Senator has however filed a N5bn suit against SaharaReporters, stating that he has been psychologically and emotionally traumatized by the allegation.

He has also petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

2. SGF shuns Senate

The Senate had directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal to appear before it over grass cutting contracts he awarded under the Presidential Intervention Programme in the North East.

However, Lawal in a letter to the upper chamber said he would not appear before it because he had sued the Senate over the probe.

In a twist of events, Babachir wrote another letter to the Senate, stating that he could not appear due to an important official assignment.

He urged the upper chamber to reschedule his appearance to a latter date.

In a statement on Friday, the SGF also said he has no powers to award contracts, contrary to claims by the Senate that he awarded contracts to 20 ‘ghost’ companies.

3. Senate vs Customs CG

The friction between the Senate and the Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali continued this week.

Ali on Wednesday refused to honour the invitation of the Senate.

Angered by his actions, the Senate called for the resignation of Ali, stating that he was unfit to hold the position.

4. Dollar continues to crash against Naira

The Naira continued its steady rise against the Dollar on Thursday as it traded for N390 at the parallel market in Abuja.

The Naira also appreciated against the Euro, exchanging at N400 while remaining stable against the Pound Sterling at N465.

5. Saraki’s alleged Range Rover vehicle

The Senate had started investigation into the alleged seizure of a bulletproof car reportedly owned by Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The upper chamber on Tuesday directed its committee on ethics and privileges to investigate the allegation.

Saraki has however said he has nothing to do with the alleged bulletproof car which was seized by the Nigeria Customs Service.

6. Cynthia Osokogu’s killers sentence to death

A Lagos State High Court in Igbosere has sentenced to die by hanging two men, Ezekiel Eloka and Echezona Nwabufor for the murder of a postgraduate student, Cynthia Osokogu.

The convicts had murdered Ms. Osokogu on July 22, 2012 at Cosmilla Hotel, Lakeview Estate, Festac Town.

7. Suicidal medical doctor’s body recovered from Lagos Lagoon

The body of a medical doctor, Allwell Orji who committed suicide by jumping into the lagoon along the Third Mainland Bridge was recovered.

Orji had parked his car on the bridge and jumped into the lagoon.

A search party had earlier recovered a body but his mother confirmed it was not the body of her son.

8. UK Parliament attack

An attacker in London had driven over some persons before knifing a police officer, after which he was shot dead.

The police later identified the attacker as Khalid Masood who was born a Christian but converted.

The Islamic State, ISIS, also claimed responsibility for the Westminster attack that left four victims dead in the heart of London.

9. More travails for Magu

The end of the travails of acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu seems not to be in sight.

Magu had been rejected twice by the Senate from becoming the substantive chair of the commission due to a report by the Department of State Services (DSS) questioning his integrity.

A Faceless group, Advocacy Justice, on Friday shared a seven-page letter allegedly written by the DSS to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

10. Eedris Abdulkareem demands respect

Rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has said that the work done by old artistes like himself is what is making the new artistes make a lot of money.

Speaking with Hip TV, Abdulkareem said, the old artistes put food on the table for the likes of Don Jazzy and other new artistes.

In a separate interview, he blasted music icon, 2face for allegedly disrespecting Daddy Showkey.
