A vehicle carrying ammunition was at the weekend intercepted by men of the Benue State Police Command.
The vehicle was seized by the police and one person, suspected to be a member of Boko Haram, was also arrested.
The vehicle was impounded on Friday night when men of the state Police Force on patrol around the Ankpa Quarters junction in Makurdi stopped the car for a routine search.
According to reports, the arms laden car, a Volkswagen model, had five persons in it and had run into the police who were on stop and search duty at the place. The incident happened between 9 and 10pm on Friday.
The development raised the curiosity of the police when the occupants of the suspected vehicle had ran out of the car in order to escape. The police quickly pursued them, shot sporadically and later arrested the one of the culprits.
However, it was also gathered that the boot of the car was laden with arms even as the arrested man who wore a caftan told the policemen that they were coming from Naka road which houses one of the big churches in town.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ezeala, however, dispelled the rumour and said that the occupants of the car were not Boko Haram members. He stated that one of the gunmen was arrested.
