BREAKING: Supreme Court affirms election of Dickson as Bayelsa governor

The Supreme Court on Tuesday affirmed the election of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Governor Seriake Dickson at the last governorship election in Bayelsa State.

Candidate of the APC, Timipre Sylva had filed an appeal challenging the decision of INEC to declared Dickson winner at the polls.

His petition was earlier dismissed by the election petition tribunal in Bayelsa State before approaching the Court of Appeal.

Sylva’s petition was also dismissed by the appeal court.

The seven-man panel of the Supreme Court on Tuesday also dismissed the petition submitted by Timipre Sylva.

Justice Tanko Mohammed while delivering the lead judgment said he would give reasons for his judgment on November 18.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who is also a member of the Supreme Court panel, d‎ismissed a cross-appeal filed by Dickson challenging some aspects of the judgment of the Court of Appeal on the dispute over the Bayelsa State election.

The panel promised to give details behind the decision on November 18.
