Chidinma Adetshina, a contestant in the South African pageantry, has withdrawn her participation in the pageant show amid the social media controversy and a government investigation into her family.
Chidinma Adetshina, a Nigerian-South African beauty pageant contestant, made it to the internet, causing a rift between Nigerians and South Africans on social media as the latter denounced the lady as a South African, claiming that she was not qualified to participate in the South African pageantry due to her Nigerian heritage.
The model announced that she would no longer be participating in the finals on August 10 after the South African government began an investigation into her family’s life, accusing her mother of fraud and identity theft.
“After much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw myself from the competition for the safety and wellbeing of my family and I,” she wrote on Instagram.
Chidinma Adetshina became a victim of xenophobia by South Africans as they questioned her heritage, warning her to return to her homeland (Nigeria) as she was not fit to compete in the South African beauty pageant.
The model had claimed she was born in Soweto to a Nigerian father and a South African mother of Mozambique descent.
