The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has implored his supporters to refrain from violence and to avoid soiling the name of the party.
Buhari gave the counsel on Monday, January 12, at the inauguration of his campaign office and the presidential campaign council in Abuja.
He said: “I expect you to re-double your effort, I expect total support. I urge you not to insult or be rude to any leader on my behalf. Your conduct must not tarnish the image of the party.”
“The opposition is committed to the rule of law. Learn to be vigilant before, during and immediately after elections. Don’t take the law into your hands, no matter the provocation.”
Furthermore, he pledged that under the APC-led government, no Nigerian would go to bed hungry.
Meanwhile, the Buhari Presidential Campaign Organization has told the Peoples Democratic Party that it was supporters of the ruling party that participated in the burning of a campaign bus of President Goodluck Jonathan in Jos, Plateau State, on Saturday, January 10.
The presidency and PDP had accused APC of being culpable in the incident, with the presidency urging Buhari to caution his supporters.
However, according to Buhari, the incident was caused by controversy over a “rigged” PDP election in Plateau state.
A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, read: “PDP should leave us out of their wahala (trouble). The incident in Jos was passed as a ‘PDP on PDP violence’ yesterday evening, flowing from their rigged primaries. That is the earliest security report we got. Nobody should change that and use it to demonize opponents.”
