Fact Check: Jay-Z’s album contains no such thing as ‘a Queen not a Kardashian’

by Alexander O. Onukwue

There are NO lyrics in the entire 4:44 album where Jay-Z refers to Mrs Kardashian; those are fake tweets. The fake lyrics was triggered by a Twitter user known as @Voxmaus, as revealed by Select All on NYMAG.COM. The BET on its website also confirms this.

Jay-Z’s new album is heavy on sincerity and apology, lessons in personal finance, and the joys of fatherhood. It also contained stinging bites to persons with whom his bromance has soured, but it was not extended to the personal relations of the subjects of his attacks.
The ten-track album begins with ‘Kill Jay-Z’ in which he appears to diss Kanye West. Both artists have diverged from the strong relationship over the years that had seen them work on several projects, going back to Jay-Z’s breakthrough years in the late 90s. Both worked on the 2011 album, Watch This Throne, and have been on popular tracks like ‘Run This Town’.

However, they’ve been riding separate lanes since last year, with Kanye especially grieved that his “brother” would not visit him after the attack at gunpoint on his wife, Kim Kardashian West, in Paris last October. Kanye’s grudges were apparently fueled by money and politics issues involved in Kanye West’s release of his 2016 album, Life of Pablo, on Tidal, the music service owned by Jay-Z.

While ‘Kill Jay-Z’ was an unhindered distillation of Jay-Z’s feelings towards his erstwhile bro, there was the subtle attempt to extend the beef to the wives of both artistes. The tweet posted by the user identified above and duplicated by many other read: “My wife a Queen not a Kardashian”. Many of those who later caught on the prank retracted their tweets.

Jay-Z and Kanye West have the same number of Grammy awards (21) and are married to arguably two of the most culturally influential women in the American entertainment industry. There is some contest there, even if it had not always existed before recent times. However, the desperation by some to add more wood to the fires between both families is a warning on the potential of fake news.

Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian are obviously different people from their husbands, and while you can make the argument for preferring one over the other, it should not be drawn within same lines of arguments about their husbands.
