[The Injustice Blog] Is it poverty or ‘un-patriotism’?

Nigeria is underdeveloped, Nigeria is backward, among other things we regularly complain about. We know things are yet to take shape as expected but, are we the only one in this unfamiliar situation? The answer is NO. More than fifty nations of the world are passing through one challenge or the other but our inability to move from one point has been more of a self-inflicted one than we complained of.

When you think you’ve seen it all, Nigeria will spring up a surprise and most times questionable surprises that will make a mess of our famed educational prowess.

Nigeria Twitter came alive as usual on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, after an individual posted a tweet about the sale of UNICEF customised bags meant for IDP’s in Kano. To confirm the originality of the story, it was backed up with pictorial evidence.

As usual, it was condemned by members of the Nigeria cyberspace and we are yet to get a reaction on this unfortunate issue from the Kano government and other concerned parties.

Are we going to blame this on poverty as usual or we take the blame for the brazen display of our poverty mentality?

According to Wikipedia, Poverty is the scarcity or the lack of a certain (variant) amount of material possessions or money.

The truth is that poverty is a worldwide problem, from India to China to Canada to Kenya poverty exists but some unpatriotic Nigerians over the years have capitalised on this as a reason for their questionable attitude.

This is not the first time neither will it be the last of some Nigerians misappropriating what belongs to other people especially indigents and IDP’s to themselves. We’ve seen situations where emergency workers divert relief items and we’ve moved on as if it’s nothing.

In June 2017, the Saudi Arabia government donated two hundred tonnes of date palm to Nigeria Muslims for the fasting period. But some unscrupulous Nigerians diverted part of it and sold it on the open market despite the presence of the “NOT FOR SALE” sticker on it.

We need to stop this acts of shamelessness we do under the guise of our Poverty level!
